Wicked: Part 1 review
Wicked: Part 1, directed by Jon M. Chu, is an epic film that will captivate and engage the audience from start to finish. The Broadway musical on which this film is based was just the blueprint for one of the most entertaining films of all time, both entertaining and moving. The film stars two great actresses, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-Butera. It’s impossible to say who delivers a better performance, as both stars operate on opposite ends of the spectrum. Erivo is the heart of the film, while Grande-Butera is its soul. Films like Wicked 2024 are rare, and this film is a cinematic experience to cherish.
The film takes place mainly at Shizu University, where the two lead actresses learn a very special craft. There is Elphaba (Eribo) and Glinda (Grande-Butera). At the beginning of the film, we are told that the wicked witch no longer exists. Glinda is locked in a bubble to stay away from the crowd until someone asks if Glinda was friends with the wicked witch. She says she was. The plot of the film begins with the birth of Elphaba, who, to her father’s shame, was born as a green baby.
Fast forward to Shiz, Elphaba and Galinda (as she was initially called) meet, and Galinda decides to take pity on Elphaba. Things get more complicated when they reluctantly become roommates. While Galinda has a lot of pink shoes and a nice wardrobe, Elphaba is more down to-earth when it comes to her clothes. Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, a knowledgeable lecturer who takes responsibility for the incidents Elphaba causes. Galinda wants to be trained by Morrible, but Morrible turns her attention to the more promising Elphaba.
Galinda has charisma and good looks to her advantage, while Elphaba is an outsider. Galinda sets her sights on a handsome man named Fiyero (the very talented Jonathan Bailey), who is captivated by Elphaba’s abilities. Meanwhile, the school’s goat professor, Dr. Dillamond (the distinctive voice of Peter Dinklage), bonds with Elphaba. When Elphaba wears a pointy black hat to a party, she is mocked until Galinda stands beside her, and begins to form a friendship with the green but talented Elphaba herself. The film is available on the Theflixtor website.
